Survey on Banagher marina options now underway

An online survey has been launched which invites people to give feedback on proposals for the future development of Banagher Marina and surrounding areas.

The survey, which is part of the preparation of a masterplan for the marina, can be completed at any stage between now and Sunday next, September 25.

The architectural and tourism masterplan for Banagher Marina and its environs was commissioned by Offaly County Council, with support from the Department of Community and Rural Development.

The local authority said the plan would aim to "reposition Banagher Marina for tourists, offer new opportunities to local businesses and improve the experience of living in and around the town for local residents." It added that the marina masterplan was "one element of a larger regeneration plan for the town" and was being led by Clonmel-based planning, design and engineering professionals PLACE+U, along with Dublin-based tourism consultants, CHL.

The online survey, which takes at least 7 minutes to complete, asks for feedback on several possible options that are being considered for the future of Banagher Marina and its surrounds.

"One of the main concepts of the masterplan is to dedicate more space to pedestrians, cyclists and public spaces, rather than to cars and other vehicles," the survey states. "It is proposed to give pedestrians and cyclists the priority on all roads and to provide improved pedestrian and cycling links."
