Ó Sé says his Offaly involvement was "a fierce commitment"

Former Kerry footballer Tomás Ó Sé has reflected on his involvement with the Offaly senior footballers, saying it had been "a fierce commitment" but one that he enjoyed.

Ó Sé served as part of John Maughan's management team during the 2022 season, and when Maughan departed he was seen as his likely successor.

However, the five-time All Ireland winner took up the role of principal at Gaelscoil de hÍde in Fermoy during the summer and this work promotion, coupled with the travel involved from Cork to the Faithful County, caused him to withdraw from consideration for the Offaly job.

In an interview with The Irish Sun, Ó Sé, who has since taken charge of the Kerry Under-20 footballers, said he had fond memories of his brief spell with Offaly.

He said: “I showed interest in the Kerry (Under-20) gig the time Declan (O'Sullivan) got it (in 2021)," he said.

"It came up again and I was fierce happy above in Offaly.

"There was a fierce commitment, it's time-consuming but I was enjoying it.

"I was nearly there, but my professional life took a turn as well where I went for a principalship.

"And I made the right decision because the amount of time going into this (Kerry Under-20) job was more than I thought," he commented.

Liam Kearns was confirmed as the new manager of the Offaly senior footballers in August.
