An Offaly teenager scored a goal that was memorable for more reasons than one in order to seal the Mark Farren Cup for the Athlone Town Under-17s last weekend.

Deep into injury time, Kevin Sweeney, who played his schoolboy football for Killeigh, swung in a corner kick that evaded everyone and looped into the net.

It was the only goal of the game in the cup final between Athlone and Cork City in Lissywollen.

You can watch the goal, and the celebrations which it sparked, here:

Kevin wasn't the only Offaly connection to the Athlone Town side. The team's goalkeeper, Charlie Raper, lives in the Birr area. Originally from England, Charlie is a former Birr Town player.

There are also several Tullamore Town players in the Athlone squad, such as Conor Bracken, Darragh Kenny, Szymon Skura (sub goalkeeper) and Gordon Feery.
