Offaly represented at World Cup in Qatar!

Ireland may not have made it to the World Cup in Qatar, but that didn't stop one fan from proudly displaying his Offaly colours during the tournament!

During the game between Belgium and Canada in Group F last night (Wednesday) an eagle-eyed Irish viewer spotted a fan in the stadium, Finn Kearney (15), who wore his Offaly GAA jersey to the game.

The viewer, Ciarán Peelo, tweeted a screenshot of the Faithful County fan, and wrote: "Last thing you'd expect to see at a Belgium and Canada match is an Offaly jersey"

Finn, who is from Tubber, attended the game with his Dad, Anthony.

Anthony works in healthcare and has been living in Qatar with his family for a number of years.

They could scarcely have been closer to the action yesterday, sitting in the front row behind one of the goals as Belgium laboured to a 1-0 win in the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium on the outskirts of Doha.

The spotting of Irish fans wearing GAA jerseys at big soccer tournaments has become something of a pastime on social media in recent years.

Kerry twins Niall and Seamus O'Connor received plenty of online attention when they were shown in their Kerry jerseys as they celebrated among a group of Italian fans during Italy's win over Spain in last year's European Championships semi-final.
