Snow and ice warning issued for Offaly

Met Éireann is forecasting snow showers in certain parts of the country, including Offaly and Westmeath, this evening (Tuesday) and overnight tonight.

The national meteorological service issued a yellow-level snow and ice warning this morning, which will take effect at 5.30pm this evening and will remain in place until 9am on Wednesday morning.

The counties that are under the weather warning are mainly in the Midlands and North of the country, though Cork and Kerry are also included.

Met Éireann said "scattered snow showers" were expected with "some possible accumulations" as well as icy stretches on roads and footpaths.

The weather warning comes after temperatures dipped to -7 degrees Celsius at the Met Éireann weather station in Mount Dillon, Roscommon, last night. This was the lowest temperature reading at any of its weather stations overnight.

The very cold weather is expected to continue until Thursday.
