Tullamore "sounds magical" US star Conan O'Brien tells podcast listeners

Well-known American broadcaster Conan O'Brien has put the spotlight on Tullamore in the latest episode of his hit podcast Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend.

The former host of Late Night with Conan O'Brien welcomed his namesake, Tullamore's Ellen O'Brien, onto the podcast for a chat about Ireland, Ellen's law studies at TU Dublin, and her work as a tour guide at the Tullamore Dew distillery.

The episode was very much an O'Brien family affair, as Ellen explained that both her parents, Ray and Tina, had been born into O'Brien families.

When Ellen explained that she was in Tullamore, Conan said: "Tullamore sounds like a magical land, filled with pixies and leprechauns and unicorns. Tullamore has a fairytale kind of feel to it."

"There's definitely some strange creatures," Ellen replied.

"I'm sorry, Ellen, those are called Irish people," the host said.

During the podcast episode, Ellen and Conan also talked about his Irish heritage, whiskey preferences, and what he might do if he visited Ireland.

The 16-minute episode of Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend, featuring Ellen O'Brien, was released yesterday (Thursday). It's entitled 'Keepin' It In The Family' and is available now on all podcast platforms.
