Irish Powerchair Football team beat England

The Irish Powerchair Football team beat the World Cup favourites England 2-1 at a recent friendly match at St George’s Park in England.

The team consisted of brothers Tom and Sean Donogher from Kinnitty, Conor Troy from Kilcormac, Aoife McNicholl and Emer O'Sullivan from Portlaoise, Naglis Montvillas from Dublin, and Liam Lynch and Matthew Crowley from Cork. Coach Mike Donogher, assistant coach Almas Montvillas and team manager Jerry Sheehan also travelled to St George's Park.

The Powerchair Football World Cup will take place in Sydney in Ocotber, and England are one of the favourites to win. The Irish team are therefore ecstatic to have beaten them, and in the process becoming only the third country to beat England, alongside America and France.

Team Ireland now have their sights firmly set on a medal in the upcoming World Cup with two months of hard training left they are confident that they can finish at the top.

Anyone wishing to help with funding for the trip can donate to the team's gofundme.
