One lucky family received a boost to their Christmas preparations when they picked up almost €400 worth of items during a 'supermarket sweep' style dash around Lidl in Tullamore.

Mary Clear was the Offaly winner of this year's annual Lidl 'Trolley Dash' fundraising competition.

Mary was represented by her daughter, Bridget, who took part in the Trolley Dash at the Tullamore store and managed to leave with goods valued at €390.

Nationally, Lidl's Christmas Trolley Dash raised more than €300,000 in support of its charity partner Jigsaw, the National Centre for Youth Mental Health.

Now in its tenth year, the fundraising initiative received widespread support from generous customers across Lidl's 179 stores nationwide, with the supermarket's customers in Offaly raising more than €7,000 for Jigsaw.

For two weeks in November, Trolley Dash tickets are sold in Lidl stores across Ireland for just €1 each, offering customers the chance to win the supermarket sweep-style dash around their nearest local Lidl store

And in recent weeks the lucky winners have been flying through the aisles of their local stores for the chance to bag their Christmas shopping and fill a trolley load of groceries and festive treats.

Since its launch in 2014, Lidl's Trolley Dash has raised more than €2 million for local Irish charities and given away trolley loads of Christmas groceries to thousands of lucky winners.

Eimear O'Sullivan, Corporate Affairs Director for Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland said: "Thanks to the continued support of our fantastic shoppers and employees across Ireland, we are delighted to have raised just over €312,000 for our charity partner Jigsaw through Trolley Dash this festive season.

"We are extremely proud to partner with Jigsaw, who support young adults in Ireland with expert mental health advice and support, and this festive fundraiser is undoubtedly the highlight event in the calendar every year.

"Everyone at Lidl Ireland is overwhelmed by the generosity from our customers, especially in these challenging times, who are contributing to such an important cause that will have a real impact on future generations," she commented.
