One-man drama 'Unguarded' coming to Birr

A one-man drama which explores themes relating to surrogacy is coming to Birr Theatre and Arts Centre on Saturday, February 3, at 8pm.

Unguarded, written and performed by Louth actor Anthony Kinahan, and directed by Anna Simpson, was produced in association with Droichead Arts Centre and An Táin Arts Centre in Dundalk.

The show is now embarking on a 15-venue spring tour which includes the Offaly date on the February bank holiday weekend.

A summary of Unguarded reads: "When a father's world falls apart, he must battle through obstacles to ensure a future for him and his son."

Described as "a touching and often comedic new drama," it uses "imaginative physicality, vocal versatility and song to highlight the vulnerable position many LGBTQ+ & non-LGBTQ+ families find themselves in due to the lack of regulation of surrogacy in Ireland".

The show has a 75-minute running time and tickets, priced €18/€16, are on sale from the venue, at www.birrtheatre.com, or on 057 9122911.
