Irish author Sinéad Moriarty explored Offaly's outdoor attractions and heritage for an episode of the Tracks and Trails series which aired on RTÉ One last Friday evening.

In part one of the episode, Sinéad started her exploration of the Faithful County with a loop around historic Glinsk Forest near Kinnity in the Slieve Bloom Mountains.

Along the way she visited the grounds of Kinnity Castle where she had a stroll with Rachel McKenna to get some local insight into the history and the preservation of the grounds, and to hear about the refurbishment of some beautiful bridges there which lay hidden for many years.

She then continued into the forest where she met photographer Paul Moore who showed her how to focus on what is around her by being in the moment, using the camera on her phone to see her surroundings in a new light.

In part two, Sinéad travelled to Croghan Hill, where she met with Heritage Officer, Amanda Pedlow.

For her next trail, the author swapped her hiking boots for the two wheels of an electric bike for a cycle from Ballycommon to Rahan along the Grand Canal Greenway.

On one of the final sections of the bike ride, Sinéad was joined by local tourism officer, Olive Farrelly who kept her company for a chat until they parted at one of the beautiful old bridges which dotted along this trail.
