Arrest made after reports of man wielding machetes in Tyrone

A man has been arrested in the North after police received reports of a person with two machetes in Coalisland, Co Tyrone on Sunday afternoon.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed it received reports "that a man, armed with two machetes, was threatening people in the Derry Road area" shortly before 2pm.

The man (25) was arrested on suspicion of possession of an article with a blade or point in a public place.

During the arrest, he also spat at an officer and was further arrested on suspicion of assault on police, the PSNI added.

The force confirmed the man remains in custody, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
