O’Brien expresses concerns over use of hospital wards

Independent Councillor Sean O'Brien has raised concerns about both the Children's Ward and the Day Ward in the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore, saying that half of these wards are now being used for other patients.

"The Children's Ward was to be specifically used for children who required surgery or other medical procedures and it played a vital role in ensuring that children received treatment as soon as possible. Now half of this 17-bed ward is being used for regular patients and this means that children who need medical attention cannot be admitted for such operations as Tonsilitis," outlines Cllr O' Brien.

"The Day Ward which is for people requiring medical treatment without overnight stay is also being used for regular patients and again this means that those requiring day procedures will be pushed down the list also," concluded Cllr O' Brien.
