Offaly boxer part of Irish team in Scottish training camp

Offaly boxer Brian Kennedy was part of a team from the Irish High Performance Unit which travelled to Scotland this week to test their skills against their Scottish counterparts.

The Daingean man, who represents the St Brigid's club in Edenderry, became the National Elite champion at the 85kg weight division earlier this month when he overcame Jason Clancy, of the Sean McDermott Boxing Club in Leitrim, on a 4-1 split decision.

The Irish Athletic Boxing Association (IABA) stated that Kennedy and three other high performance boxers, Adam Hession, Kelyn Cassidy and Gavin Rafferty had jetted off to the Scottish High Performance Unit yesterday (Wednesday).

An Ulster high performance team is also part of the Scottish trip, which the IABA said would involve "training and test matches" culminating in a fight night tomorrow (Friday).

Kennedy's previous experience in the international ranks this year includes being part of an Irish team which took on Austria last month, and competing at the prestigious Strandja Memorial multi-nations boxing tournament in Bulgaria in February
