Sunday sport: Meath beat Galway to reach semi-finals, Armagh take on Kerry

Meath have booked their place in the semi-finals of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.

Robbie Brennan's Royals have edged out Galway by 2-16 to 2-15 at Croke Park.

A Conor Gray goal had Meath 1-12 to 9-points up heading into the final quarter but Galway responded with goals from Liam Silke and Cillian McDaid.

The crucial score of the game came eight minutes from time with Jordan Morris scoring Meath's second goal, and he finished with 1-6.

The second quarter-final is just getting underway where reigning champions Armagh are up against Kerry.

Donegal and Tyrone are awaiting the semi-final draw following their wins on Saturday.

Republic of Ireland manager Carla Ward says they will learn more from their games against the USA than all of their Nations League games put together.

She takes her charges against the best team in the world later off the back of a humbling 4-0 defeat to their hosts in Colorado.

22-year old-Erin McLaughlin could make the starting eleven as Ward deals with a number of injuries to big stars.

Chelsea are into the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup after beating Benfica 4-1 after extra-time in North Carolina.

A chip in birdie on 18 meant Padraig Harrington will go into the final day of the US Senior Open in a tie for the lead.

The Dubliner is alongside Stewart Cink and Mark Hensby on 8 under par in Colorado.

All three will go in the final group today at 3:50pm Irish time.

Elsewhere, Leona Maguire and Jennifer Kupcho are still in contention ahead of round 4 of the Dow Championship on the LPGA Tour.

The team sit in a tie for 4th after yesterday's 2 over round of 72 which leaves them on 11 under par.

They are 2 shots off the lead held by the pair of Sarah Schmelzel and Albane Valenzuela.

Alex Dunne has been disqualified at the Austrian Grand Prix in Formula 2.

The Offaly man had finished the race in second but a post race check of his car found it was outside the regulation specifications.

That means his result is cancelled and he falls back to 24 points behind fellow McLaren driver Richard Verschoor in the drivers standings.
