High temperature warning extended to Sunday in Offaly

Met Éireann has issued a new yellow-level weather warning for much of the country - including the Midlands counties of Westmeath, Roscommon and Offaly - this Sunday.

Maximum temperatures "in excess of 27 degrees Celsius" are expected on the day.

The new high temperature warning follows on from earlier heat warnings issued by the national forecaster for today (Friday) and tomorrow.

Met Éireann advised the public to be aware of potential impacts from the current spell of warm weather, pointing out that there's a risk of water safety issues arising due to increased use of lakes and beaches over the weekend.

Forest fires are also a possibility, and people are asked to mindful of the potential for heat stress in certain situations.

The yellow-level high temperature warning for Sunday will be in effect from 12 noon to 6pm.

The full list of counties under the warning is: Offaly, Westmeath, Roscommon, Carlow, Cavan, Clare, Donegal, Galway, Kildare, Kilkenny, Leitrim, Laois, Limerick, Longford, Mayo, Sligo and Tipperary.
