Second boxer from Offaly club selected for world championships

A boxing club in Offaly will have not one but two of its members competing at World Boxing's world championships which take place in Liverpool in September.

Brian Kennedy of the St Brigid's club in Edenderry was last week named on the Irish team for the championships, alongside Tullamore's Gráinne Walsh who now boxes out of the St Mary’s club in Tallaght.

A second boxer from the St Brigid's Edenderry club, Josefien Betist, has now been picked to represent Sierra Leone at the championships.

Josefien, who defeated Tunisian champion Amal Mathloifi earlier this year, has strong family links to the West African country.

Liam Brereton of St Brigid’s congratulated both Brian and Josefien on their selection, which is a huge source of pride in the Offaly club.
