Tubber GAA “blown away” by support for fundraising initiative
Community spirit proved pivotal to the success of a fundraising initiative in Tubber this past weekend which has, to date, raised over €22,000 towards infrastructure improvements at the local GAA club.
As a result of damage caused by Storm Éowyn in February, the club hosted a 120km Tour De Tubber cycling initiative, with funds raised going towards the essential repair of two ball stoppers on the club’s GAA pitch in the heart of the community.
On Saturday, nine club members cycled the 120km distance from Croke Park to the club's GAA headquarters, while over 93 participants took part in a 24-hour spinathon in the Tubber GAA clubhouse, cycling over 1,200km in the process.
Tubber GAA PRO Brian Kelly said the club was "completely blown away" by the level of support received for the fundraising initiative.
"Over 100 club members took part in the initiative during the weekend and there was a great community atmosphere around the club. The cyclists arrived at the club's grounds from Croke Park at 3.30pm on Saturday afternoon where there were almost 200 members of the community present to welcome them home. The support for the whole initiative has been just great," Brian said.
Such was the community support for the initiative that the fundraising target set has now been surpassed.
"We would like to thank all who have supported our initiative, particularly the surrounding businesses who sponsored the cyclists’ jerseys and to all who donated to our gofundme page online.
“The donations are still coming in and the club is extremely grateful to the local community for making a success of the initiative," Brian concluded.
The Tour de Tubber gofundme page https://www.gofundme.com/f/120km-tour-de-tubber remains open for donations until Friday, September 5.
