Sunday sport: Ireland reach World Cup quarter finals, Liverpool face Arsenal

Ireland have booked their place in the Women's Rugby World Cup quarter finals.

They beat Spain 43-22 in their Pool C clash on Sunday afternoon. 

Scott Bemand's side have secured the bonus point and will progress to the next round.

In some bad news, co-captain Sam Monaghan left the field early due to an injury.

Also in Pool C, New Zealand come up against Japan from 2pm.

Soccer

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola's launched a staunch defence of his football principles ahead of today's Premier League clash with Brighton.

They were beaten at home by Tottenham last time out.

After losing the title to Liverpool last season - Guardiola's responded to suggestions his team needs to be more direct to get positive results.

They play at 2pm

At the same time, Nottingham Forest welcome West Ham to the City Ground.

The big game of the day will see rivals Liverpool and Arsenal clash at Anfield from 4:30pm.

There's a late game on Saturday with Aston Villa taking on Crystal Palace at 7pm.

Brentford striker Yoane Wissa has called on the club to "keep their word" and allow him to leave in the transfer window.

The DR Congo international has been angling for a move to Newcastle which has been blocked by the Bees so far.
