Ferbane artist to showcase work in Birr Theatre solo exhibition

An Offaly artist who admits to being “a late convert” to the world of art is set to open a solo exhibition of her work in Birr Theatre and Arts Centre this Saturday, September 20.

Ann Mitchell from Gallen in Ferbane, will open her exhibition, titled 'Daughters of Stars and Dust' in Birr at 2pm on Saturday. The striking portraits on exhibit explore the beauty of strength and fragility side by side. The gifted artist says her portraits hold “memory, silence, and presence” and serve as a reminder that we are “precious and fleeting.”

The daughter of former Rahan lock-keeper, Niall Mitchell and his wife, Bridie, both of whom are now deceased, Ann Mitchell comes from a very creative Offaly family with her sister, Caroline, a million-selling author and another sister, Louise, working as a landscape artist.

The Birr exhibition is the first of two art exhibitions that Ann Mitchell's work will feature in over the coming week, with the second taking place in the Ormonde Hotel in Kilkenny on Thursday of next week, September 25, where she will be part of the FlashArt group exhibition featuring eight artists living in Ireland.
