Offaly TD meets with Fastway Ireland receivers
Offaly Fine Gael TD John Clendennen recently met with the receivers appointed to Fastway Couriers Ireland to discuss the "devastating" situation facing customers and staff following its closure in recent weeks.
The company, which has a large depot in Portarlington, ceased trading with immediate effect on Tuesday, October 28, in a move which is believed to have impacted some 150 jobs in Offaly.
In an update today (Thursday), Deputy Clendennen said he had been engaging with Mark Degnan and Brendan O'Reilly from Interpath Advisory, who were were appointed as receivers when Fastway Ireland ceased to trade.
Thousands of parcels were being processed or in transit when the company went into receivership.
The local TD said the receivers told him they'd made significant progress in the processing of over 70,000 parcels, with the intention of making all remaining items available for collection to Fastway Ireland customers as early as next week, subject to ongoing progress.
"This entire situation has been absolutely devastating for Fastway customers, staff, and all those impacted by the receivership," said Deputy Clendennen.
"However, the progress outlined to me is very much necessary and an important step toward getting parcels back to their rightful owners."
He said parcels that would have originally been sorted by delivery location had to be returned to be resorted based on customer details and that this was a significant logistical undertaking, given the large quantity of parcels involved.
Direct customers who do not hear from the receivers within the next week are being advised to make follow up contact via: nuvioncustomers@interpath.com.
"I will continue to stay in close contact with the receivers and will do everything I can to ensure that the best possible outcome is achieved for every stakeholder involved," the local TD concluded.
