Tullamore's Gráinne Walsh has her arm raised in victory after defeating Armenia’s Elida Kocharyan at the Strandja multi-nations tournament in Bulgaria this afternoon (Wednesday).

Tullamore's Gráinne to box for medal tomorrow after last-16 win at tournament in Bulgaria

Tullamore's Gráinne Walsh is through to the quarter finals of Europe’s oldest multi-nations boxing competition, the Strandja tournament in Bulgaria.

In her opening contest at the tournament this afternoon (Wednesday), Gráinne turned in a strong performance to convincingly defeat Armenia’s Elida Kocharyan.

Walsh (30) won all three rounds on four of the judges' scorecards, while the remaining judge, from Kazakhstan, was an outlier in awarding two rounds to Kocharyan and one to the Irish boxer.

Today's win means Gráinne will now box for a podium place tomorrow (Thursday) when she faces Brazil’s Haziel Krishna Franco Santos at the 65kg quarter final stage.
