Late Amber Barrett goal seals crucial win over the Netherlands

Amber Barrett was the hero for Ireland as they beat the Netherlands 3-2 in Páirc Uí Chaoimh on a rainy Friday evening.

The Donegal native scored in the 90th minute after the Dutch had found an equaliser on two separate occasions.

Abbie Larkin and Kyra Carusa also found themselves on the scoresheet with goals either side of the break.

The Dutch received a penalty in the second half after Groenen feinted past Mannion and was taken down.

Two minutes later, Ireland went on the break with great work from Sheva to cross into the box, and Larkin finished it off with a deflection from the defender.

The Netherlands hit back in the 80th minute with a nicely taken goal from substitute Pelova.

Not to be denied, Ireland kept pushing, and after a cross into the box, Patten headed it across the goal with Amber Barret slotting it home at the back post.

The Girls in Green ended the night second in Group B, after France's 2-0 win over Poland. If they beat the French on Tuesday, they will automatically qualify for the World Cup.
