Cistercian College community celebrates successful charity initiative

The Cistercian College Roscrea (CCR) community is celebrating another successful year of its 'One Less Thing for Lent' charity initiative, raising an impressive €5,350 in 2026 to support the education of young girls in Uganda.

Launched in 2023, the campaign originally set out with the modest goal of raising €300, enough money to send one child to school for a year. Since then, the initiative has grown beyond all expectations, with total funds raised now exceeding €20,000.

Every euro raised goes directly to Colomo Primary School in Uganda, where the funding helps provide education, meals and clothing for young girls who might otherwise be unable to attend school.

A cheque for €5,350 was presented to Mr. Tim Maher, who accepted it on behalf of the Sr. Mona Charity Fund.

The remarkable success of the campaign reflects the generosity and commitment of the CCR community. Organisers described the initiative as a powerful example of "faith in action", putting Gospel values into practice by supporting some of the world's most vulnerable children.

Sincere thanks were extended to all donors whose contributions ranged from €1 to €500. Every donation played an important part in making this year's campaign such a phenomenal success.

A special word of appreciation was also offered to the students of CCR, whose enthusiastic and generous support has been central to the project's continued growth and impact.

The 'One Less Thing for Lent' campaign continues to demonstrate how small individual sacrifices can combine to make a life-changing difference for children thousands of miles away.
