Dunne continues impressive F2 season form
Offaly racing driver Alex Dunne achieved a fifth podium place of his FIA Formula 2 season when a penalty handed to championship leader Nikola Tsolov saw him finish in the runner-up position at the 2026 Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix on Sunday.
Dunne had finished third on the road behind Rafael Camara, who won his first F2 race, and Tsolov.
However, Tsolov was handed a five-second penalty for overtaking outside of track limits and dropped to fourth, which promoted Dunne to second position.
The Clonbollogue driver made a fast start to the feature race and maintained pole position until he was overtaken with seven laps of the course remaining following a pit stop.
Dunne remains fourth in the overall championship standings following the fifth F2 race of the 2026 season. The Rodin Motorsport driver is 19 points adrift of championship leader Gabriele Mini.
Speaking at the FIA Formula 2 post race press conference, Dunne said he was starting to build "momentum" as the championship season progresses.
"We've had three podiums in a row now in the feature races, which is nice. So I think we're building a little bit of consistency and we're starting to bring home points all the time, which is nice.
"So yeah, I think coming into this weekend, I think Barcelona is probably one of our weaker tracks usually during the year. So to still come away with what we have, I'm not too disappointed," Dunne said.
