Defence Forces to conduct military training exercise in Offaly

Residents in parts of Offaly can expect an increased military presence over the next two days as the Defence Forces carries out a planned training exercise.

The exercise will take place in the Cloghan, Derrinlough and Kilcormac areas from approximately 3pm on Monday, June 29, until 10pm on Tuesday, June 30.

Organised by the Defence Forces' Infantry School in conjunction with the Cavalry Young Officers Course, the exercise will involve military personnel, Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and military helicopters operating throughout the area.

Members of the public may notice heightened military activity during the exercise, including the sound of blank ammunition and pyrotechnic training aids.

The Defence Forces has stressed that no live ammunition will be used at any stage.

In a statement, the Defence Forces said the exercise has been carefully planned to minimise disruption to local communities while providing essential training for personnel.

The Defence Forces thanked residents for their understanding and cooperation while the exercise is underway.
