Kilcormac parents' group raises nearly €2,000 by holding first-ever market

A group set up to support parents and children in the Kilcormac area raised close to €2,000 when it hosted its first-ever market on Sunday last.

Heather Collins, chairperson of the 'Friends Supporting Mammys and Children' group, outlined the background to the event, which was held in the garden at the back of Gracelands Bar in Kilcormac.

"With Kilcormac/Killoughey GAA club celebrating its 40th birthday, we decided to another attraction to our town that day," said Heather.

"Located to the rear of Gracelands Bar, we had people from all over Offaly attending our barbecue and market day.

"We had over 20 vendors, scoop a lucky ducky, vintage jerseys for sale, fortune-telling, face-painting, treats and baked goods, Simon's Kitchen street food, some amazing prizes raffled off, plus so much more."

Heather said the aim of the event was to raise funds for supplies and equipment for an inclusive summer camp in the area.

"Everyone had so much fun. We raised over €1,900, which we are over the moon with," she said.

"Thank you all who came, to the vendors for donations, and everyone for their continued support with our group. We are only parents trying to build more for our children in our community."
