Offaly women invited to join local rugby club

Offaly-based women with an interest in playing rugby are invited to attend an open meeting to be held by Midland Warriors RFC at the Grand Hotel, Moate on Wednesday evening (7.15pm).

The club, which was formed in 2005 to represent the districts of Moate, Castledaly, Ballymore, Rosemount, Mount Temple/Baylin, Tubber and other nearby areas, has advertised the meeting on its social platforms, encouraging potential new recruits to attend the meeting on and meet with current players and coaches. There will be no obligation to join the ranks, the club said.

The club is expected to announce its new senior women's team head coach at the meeting. Recently, the club announced that Brian Moore had stepped back from his position as head coach after a very successful couple of seasons at the helm.

The Athlone native took on a newly-formed team, consistently mostly of players without previous rugby experience, and steered them to provincial success in his debut campaign. The club thanked Moore for his contribution to the club and said that his belief in the team has inspired the club.
