Uisce Éireann working to restore water supply to Birr town following burst watermain

Uisce Éireann crews are working to restore water supply to homes, businesses and community facilities across Birr town and surrounding areas following a burst watermain.

The burst has resulted in water supply disruptions for customers across the town and neighbouring areas.

James Joyce, Water Operations Manager with Uisce Éireann, said: "Our priority is to return water services to the community as quickly as possible while ensuring repairs are completed safely. We understand the disruption that water outages can cause for homes, businesses and the wider community, and we would like to thank customers in Birr town and the surrounding areas for their patience while crews carry out these essential repairs."

"Our teams have been mobilised and are working to repair the burst and restore water supply to affected customers. Every effort is being made to minimise disruption and restore supplies as quickly as possible."

As repairs progress, customers may experience outages, low water pressure and discoloured water. Once repairs are complete later today (Wednesday, July 15), it may take a number of hours for normal supply to return to all customers as the network refills, Uisce Éireann said.

Traffic management is in place on the N52 at Riverwalk, opposite the service station, to facilitate the repair works. Motorists are advised to exercise caution when travelling through the area and to follow all traffic management measures in place.

Customers are reminded that it typically takes two to three hours following repairs for normal water supply to fully return. However, restoration may take longer for customers located at the end of the network or on higher ground.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications for unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.

Uisce Éireann said it regrets the inconvenience caused and thanked the Birr community for its 'patience and understanding' while crews work to restore water supply.
