Mountlucas parkrun in mourning
There was an air of grief and sadness at Mountlucas parkrun at the weekend as participants heard the sad news that one of the Mountlucas parkrun family, Geraldine Mahon, has died.
Geraldine started her parkrun journey in January 2018 and quickly became a regular and firm favourite at Mountlucas parkrun. She had completed Mountlucas parkrun a total of 159 times and volunteered as tail-walker for the event on 41 different occasions.
Most often seen at Mountlucas parkrun with her good friend Rita Corcoran, the parkrun organisers said that Geraldine 'always had a smile and a chat for anyone she met'.
'She was a beautiful person, inside and out. She was a bright and bubbly woman who had a spark about her; a kind of infectious joy. She was passionate about her health and fitness, taking part regularly at parkrun, as well as regularly walking, swimming and doing aqua aerobics,' the parkrun organisers said.
The group added that Geraldine will be dearly missed at Mountlucas parkrun. Speaking to Geraldine as part of her parkrunner profile back in 2024, when asked to describe Mountlucas parkrun, she said: "It is such a peaceful environment, away from the hustle and bustle, so I think peaceful is the word I would choose to describe Mountlucas parkrun."
Participants at the event at the weekend shared a minute's silence in Geraldine's honour and ran, walked or jogged the 5km course in Geraldine's memory.
