What are the memorial and funeral plans for Glen Hansard?

Oscar-winning musician and actor Glen Hansard died in a motorcycle crash in Dublin earlier this week.

The much-loved musician's passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes from fans, friends and celebrities.

The likes of former US president Barack Obama, musician Bruce Springsteen, Oscar-winning co-star Markéta Irglová and President Catherine Connolly have all paid tribute to Hansard. 

Hansard's family has announced details for his memorial and funeral. The funeral will be open to the public, however, access to St Patrick's Cathedral will be limited.

Royal Hospital Kilmainham will be the venue for a public memorial on Monday, August 3rd, between 11am and 4pm.

In a statement, his family said: "A public wake will take place in the Baroque Chapel at IMMA, Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin 8 on Monday 3rd August between 11am and 4pm. Glen will lie in repose for those wishing to pay their respects,” Hansard’s family wrote. “Glen’s funeral will take place at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, St. Patrick’s Close, Dublin 8 on Tuesday 4th August at 1:30pm. The funeral will be open to the public, however access inside the Cathedral will be extremely limited given the numbers expected.”

The family added: “Music at the funeral will be provided by Glen’s friends and family.”

The funeral will also be broadcast live on RTÉ News and Rip.ie.
