New York society to donate to Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund

The Offaly Society New York will soon hold a charity golf event to raise fund for the Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund.

The fund was set up by the Murphy family (from Blue Ball) and the Ashling Murphy Memorial fund committee in November 2022, stating that its main objective is “the further enhancement, development and the advancements of the traditional Irish arts, culture and heritage for young people”, and that all donations and proceeds from fundraisers will be utilised to achieve objectives which are “deemed close to Ashling’s heart and represent the many interests she had in her 23 years”.

The 23-year-old primary schoolteacher and gifted musician was killed on the afternoon of January 12, 2022, while out jogging along the banks of the Grand Canal at Cappincur, Tullamore after finishing work at nearby Durrow National School. Her killing in broad daylight shocked the nation and made headlines across the world.

The Offaly Society New York will be donating all proceeds raised from the event, to be held on Friday, August 28 at Sprain Lake Golf Course, Yonkers, New York, to the memorial fund. It has said that it is seeking support from New York businesses and organisations through financial contributions, donating prizes for the event, and by sponsoring the tournament.
