'Significant step forward' as Birr Fire Service welcomes a new eco class fire appliance

Offaly Fire and Rescue Service have shared a 'significant step forward' as Birr Fire Service welcomed a new eco class fire appliance this week.

The arrival of a pioneering next-generation Eco Class Fire Appliance at Birr Fire Station, represents a major investment in emergency response, firefighter safety and sustainability in the county

This state-of-the-art vehicle combines advanced firefighting capability with innovative technology, including renewable HVO fuel with significantly reduced carbon emissions, roof-mounted solar panels and intelligent energy management.

It also features real-time vehicle monitoring and fleet connectivity, digital road safety alerts to warn motorists of approaching emergency vehicles, and enhanced firefighter health protection through the Clean Cab Concept and advanced air purification systems

Developed in partnership with Irish companies Acetech Global in Tullamore and HPMP Fire Ltd in Carlow, the new appliance showcases the very best of Irish innovation, engineering and collaboration.

"Just as Birr's world-famous Leviathan Telescope helped revolutionise scientific discovery, this groundbreaking fire appliance demonstrates how modern technology can help emergency services operate more safely, sustainably and effectively while continuing to protect communities across Offaly," a statement by Offaly County Council read.

"A significant step forward for Offaly Fire & Rescue Service, Birr Fire Station and the communities they serve."
