Offaly's contribution to distillation and brewing to be celebrated in Tullamore
Offaly's rich contribution to the world of distillation and brewing will be celebrated over the course of this weekend with an exhibition of historic artefacts in this field.
The exhibition, titled 'History of Tullamore and Offaly through Distillery, Brewing and Mineral Water Memorabilia', will take place at the Offaly History Centre, Bury Quay, Tullamore, as part of National Heritage Week. The exhibition is curated by Pat Doheny and Noel Guerin, and will take place on August 21, 22 and 23 (1pm to 5pm).
Pat Doheny said that among the highlights of the exhibition is glass and stoneware bottles, crocks, vintage advertising, and memorabilia dating from the early 1800's.
The free Heritage Week exhibition will showcase 'unique historical pieces' from the William's and Egan businesses of Tullamore, along with artefacts from many Offaly-based mineral water bottleing firms, he added.
“Visitors will journey through time, where each piece of industrial heritage capturing Offaly's rich contribution to the world of distillation and brewing, and they will experience history as it flows through these remarkable bottles, stoneware crocks, and vintage advertising memorabilia,” Pat said.
Admission is free to the exhibition which takes place on Friday, August 21, Saturday, August 22 and Sunday, August 23 from 1pm to 5pm at the Offaly History Centre, Bury Quay, Tullamore.
