Offaly to host Alzheimer’s Memory Walk next month

Offaly will again host an Alzheimer’s Memory Walk this year as part of the nationwide event being held on Sunday, September 20.

The fundraiser, supported by Aviva, is taking place ahead of World Alzheimer’s Day on September 21.

The Offaly walk will again be hosted at Lough Boora, meeting at Ballycommon Bake House Café, before walkers set off on a 3.3km or 5km route.

Now in its seventh year, the event is a major annual fundraiser for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland (ASI).

In 2025, almost 3,000 walkers took part in Alzheimer’s Memory Walk supported by Aviva, raising over €240,000 to help fund vital ASI services including Daycare, Family Carer Training, Social Clubs, Dementia Cafés and the National Helpline.

Local Champions Dr Fergus Timmons and Margaret Maher will lead the Offaly Memory Walk this year, walking in support of all those currently living with dementia.

"We are proud to lead our annual Alzheimer’s Memory Walk supported by Aviva to help fund local dementia services in Offaly," said Dr Fergus Timmons.

"The event is about community and helping spread awareness by walking together to raise vital funds for care, support, and hope for the days ahead. Join us in Lough Boora on Sunday, September 20, to show your support."
