One in 13 Offaly homes now powered by rooftop solar panels

One in every 13 Offaly homes now has rooftop solar panels installed, according to Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) grant records compiled by kilowatt.ie.

The county recently passed the milestone of 2,000 total rooftop solar installations and now ranks tenth nationally for solar adoption per household, with uptake running well ahead of the national average.

Adoption across the county continues to accelerate rapidly. So far this year, 429 Offaly households have completed solar installations, already surpassing the 169 systems installed across the entire year of 2022.

Dominic Ó Gallachóir, founder of Kilowatt.ie, commented on the findings.

"Solar energy is helping housholds to put a huge dent in their electricity bills. And with the right electricity tariff, we even see some households who get a payment from their supplier rather than a bill.

"It's no surprise to see the boom in solar panel installations is continuing," he said.
