Huge crowd attends launch of Esther Lambe art exhibition in Kilcormac

A huge crowd turned out at Kilcormac’s newly-refurbished Fiesta Hall for the official launch of Offaly artist Esther Lambe’s exhibition ‘Memory in the Landscape’ on Thursday, August 27.

The packed event brought together family, friends, members of the local community, artists and art lovers to celebrate Esther’s remarkable artistic journey and admire a collection of paintings inspired by the people, places and landscapes that have shaped her life.

Visitors were full of praise for the exhibition, with Esther’s paintings receiving an enthusiastic response, while the refurbished Fiesta Hall also attracted widespread admiration as a stunning setting for the event.

The evening was officially opened by Michael Hanna, who delivered an interesting and thought-provoking speech on the importance of art, culture and community. He was joined in the launch by Salters Sterling, whose lifelong commitment to education and learning has made a significant contribution to communities across the Midlands.

A special presentation was also made to John Feehan, adding another memorable moment to an evening that celebrated the people, heritage and landscape of the region.

For Esther, painting is about much more than simply recording what she sees. Her work captures memories, celebrates community and reflects the changing landscape of the Irish Midlands.

Raised on a farm at Derrydolney, just outside Kilcormac, her earliest memories are of farming life, neighbours, turf fires, family and the landscape surrounding her home. Those experiences have remained a powerful influence throughout her artistic career.

Although she spent her professional life as a teacher and school principal, painting became increasingly important to Esther following the beginning of formal art tuition in 2010.

Since then, she has continued to develop her skills, studying under respected Irish artists while building her own distinctive style in landscape and portraiture.

Her work is now held in private collections in Ireland and abroad and has featured in exhibitions and events across the Midlands.

‘Memory in the Landscape’ brings together atmospheric landscapes, bogland scenes, industrial heritage and expressive portraits, all connected by themes of memory, belonging and identity.

Speaking about her approach to painting, Esther said: "Painting is having a conversation with somebody about the things that hold a special place in my life. It is the touchstone between me and those who view my paintings."

The huge turnout at the launch demonstrated the strong connection between Esther’s work and the community, with many visitors recognising places, people and memories reflected in her paintings.

Roisin Lennon, CEO of Offaly Local Development Company, said the success of the evening had exceeded expectations.

"We are absolutely delighted with the success of Esther’s exhibition launch. The turnout was fantastic and it was wonderful to see Fiesta Hall filled with people coming together to celebrate Esther and her incredible body of work.

"There was a real sense of pride in the room. People were not only admiring the paintings, but sharing their own memories and connections to the places and people Esther has captured so beautifully.

"The feedback on the newly refurbished Fiesta Hall was also extremely positive. It was a very fitting setting for this exhibition and demonstrated the enormous potential of the venue as a space for arts, culture and community events.

"We were delighted to support Esther in bringing this wonderful collection together and to see such a fantastic response from the community," Ms Lennon added.

The ‘Memory in the Landscape’ exhibition will remain on display until October 22.
