'She is home': Family of Clara teen issue final update

The family of Clara teen Miya Connolly Loonam have issued a final update, as Miya has now returned home following seven weeks of rehabilitation in Dún Laoghaire.

Miya was involved in a serious road traffic collision in February of this year, and spent time in Crumlin Children’s Hospital, where she was treated for life-altering injuries.

She has now completed a 7 week rehabilitation programme in Dún Laoghaire, with the family noting that they "couldn’t be prouder" of how far she has come.

"She is using her prosthetic more and more each day and while there are still plenty of challenges ahead, she continues to make great progress. Most importantly, she is home and back in school which is something we are incredibly grateful for," the Connolly Loonam family shared in an update on the GoFundMe age.

"Life at home is still a little upside down! There have been so many changes and adjustments to make but slowly, piece by piece, things are starting to come together. We know it will take time, but we will get there in the end."

They extended their sincere thanks to all those who offered their support or donated to assist Miya in her journey to recovery.

"Your kindness and generosity have meant more to us than we could ever put into words. You have helped us through an incredibly difficult time and made the road ahead that little bit easier," they wrote.

"We will be closing the fundraising page now, but we will never forget the incredible support Miya and our family have received."

Miya's local club Clara Ladies Gaelic Football Club added that all funds have now been transferred to Miya’s Recovery Trust.

"From everyone at Clara Ladies G.F.C., and on behalf of Miya and her family, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. What started as a community coming together to help one of our own became something far bigger than we ever could have imagined."

The final sum raised for Miya and her family stands at €194,930.
