An Offaly man's creation has been selected for Time magazine's prestigious annual list of the year's best inventions.

Aonghus O'Donovan, a 33-year-old engineer from Tullamore co-developed MyCelcius bracelet, a cooling wristwatch-like device designed for perimenopausal and menopausal women, which was launched in April this year.

Time magazine’s esteemed list features its 300 best inventions for 2026, compiled through an extensive process, and it spotlighted the MyCelcius bracelet in the Health and Wellness category.

Reacting to the news in an Instagram post, the local man's company stated: "Less than one year after launch, this is an extraordinary milestone for our team and a wonderful recognition of innovation in women’s health.

"What started as an idea to help people struggling with hot flushes has become something truly special."

MyCelsius, co-founded by O'Donovan and CEO Maxime Kryvian (37), is based in Bristol, England.

Its patent-pending cooling bracelet took more than three-years to develop, with real-time guidance and inputs from perimenopausal and menopausal women, as well as doctors and specialists.

The bracelet, which works in a range of modes, has an 80% efficacy rate to manage the debilitating hot flashes caused by menopause, stress or anxiety.

“The wrist is one of the most thermally sensitive parts of your body and applying cold to it sends a signal to the hypothalamus (the body’s thermostat), to stop the sweating and flushing associated with a hot flush," O'Donovan, an alumnus of University of Limerick, stated earlier this year.

"By lowering local skin temperature, it helps the full body feel cooler in moments of sudden heat.”

The company is on a roll, as a week ago it shared that the first batch of its production run had sold out.

“To everyone who has chosen MyCelsius, shared their experience, recommended us to a friend, or supported our journey in any way, thank you. Your trust is what keeps us moving forward. And if you missed the first batch, there’s good news: Batch 2 is on the way,” the company shared on its social media platforms.
