Deirdre is Volunteer of the Month!
Deirdre Feely from Edenderry was recently announced as Offaly County Council’s Community & Culture Volunteer of the Month.
The council said her outstanding dedication to volunteering has made a lasting impact across her community.
Deirdre is involved in a wide range of organisations and initiatives, generously giving her time and energy to support people of all ages. Her commitment to community service is evident in everything she does.
Deirdre serves on the main committee of Edenderry Golf Club as Club Registrar and has previously held the roles of Lady Captain and Lady President. Every Tuesday morning, she volunteers with the club’s junior section, helping more than 100 local children learn and enjoy golf in a fun, supportive environment. She is also actively involved in the club’s Golf for All programme, which promotes inclusion and participation for children with autism through sport.
Deirdre has also been a dedicated member of Edenderry Lions Club for many years, serving in a variety of leadership roles, including President. Through her work with the club, she has contributed to numerous charitable and community initiatives that have benefitted people throughout the area.
Another important part of Deirdre’s volunteering is her involvement with Edenderry Meals on Wheels, where she helps provide both meals and companionship to older members of the community. Her kindness and willingness to help make a meaningful difference in the lives of those she supports.
Beyond these roles, Deirdre is involved in many other clubs, groups and community projects in Edenderry. She is widely respected as someone who is always willing to lend a hand and is known for her ability to bring people together and get things done.
Deirdre was chosen as Volunteer of the Month for September.
This year is International Volunteer Year 2026, as declared by the UN. Each month in 2026, Offaly County Council’s Community & Culture section is shining a spotlight on a member of the community who volunteers their time to make a difference in their community.
