Offaly TDs meet with local IFA branch over CAP concerns

Three Offaly TDs have met with the Offaly IFA branch last week, to discuss concerns over the proposed changes to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

The meeting took place on Friday, October 23, with Tony McCormack TD, John Clendennen TD, and Carol Nolan TD.

"CAP is not just about farming. It is about protecting family farms, supporting rural communities and ensuring the future of towns and villages right across Ireland," said Deputy McCormack.

"With Ireland taking over the Presidency of the EU next year, we have an important opportunity to make sure the voices of Irish farmers are heard loud and clear in Europe.

"We must use every opportunity in Dáil Éireann and through our EU Presidency to push for a fair deal that protects the future of Irish agriculture."

Deputy Nolan added: "There are serious concerns about any potential cut to the CAP Budget and the adverse impact that this will have on farming livelihoods and the Agri food sector."

She said she will continue to push the subject in The Dáil.

Deputy Clendennen said there was "unanimous agreement" on the importance of recognising and supporting the "positive contribution" agriculture makes to rural communities and local economies.
