A building project which made an Offaly family's home suitable for its three children with additional needs was recently shown in the final episode of the current series of DIY SOS: The Big Build Ireland.

The episode focusing on the Harte family, living in Walsh Island, was shown on RTÉ One on Sunday, October 25.

The building project, which was carried out with strong support from the local community and hundreds of volunteers, was filmed at the beginning of last month.

The Hartes are raising three children with autism, including six-year-old Noah, who also has Global Developmental Delay and an intellectual disability.

Noah is non-speaking, experiences severe emotional distress, and requires constant supervision due to his limited awareness of danger.

The family bought their home with the aim of creating a safe and supportive environment for Noah.

However, ongoing structural problems and costly repairs placed significant pressure on the family, while Noah's increasing size and complex needs have made everyday life more challenging.

Speaking at the reveal of their upgraded home, mum Hazel Harte said: "It's impossible to thank you all for everything you have done, every hour you have given up of your time - and we know how precious time is.

"You have made the isolation that comes along with this life and hidden disability feel seen and feel supported, and feel wrapped in a blanket of kindness and love.

"You've made what was just a house into the most amazing home."

The full season of DIY SOS: The Big Build is now available for streaming on RTE Player.
