Tullamore students launch online single with help from Music Generation

"Rocking December Nights'" is a special charity single written by students from St. Philomena’s NS and Scoil Eoin Phóil II Naofa in Tullamore, with support from Music Generation Offaly Musician Educators Ger Ralph, Aoibheann McKnight and Emma Goulding.

All proceeds from downloads go directly toward purchasing instruments for Music Generation Offaly helping to empower the next generation of musicians.

Students from the two national schools in Tullamore came together in an exciting creative partnership to write and record an original music single as part of the Music Generation programme. This unique initiative has seen dozens of young musicians, lyricists and singers collaborate over several weeks to craft a song that reflects the joy of Christmas.

Guided by Music Generation’s professional musicians and educators, the children were introduced to the full creative process — from early brainstorming and lyric writing to video and studio recording. Workshops were held in both schools, giving every child the opportunity to contribute and explore their musical abilities in a supportive, fun environment. The project aimed not only to foster musical skills but also to encourage teamwork, confidence, and self-expression.

The recording sessions took place in a professional studio, where the students experienced the thrill of performing with high-quality equipment and working alongside producers. Their enthusiasm, talent and energy were captured in a vibrant, uplifting track that showcases the creativity of Tullamore’s young people.

Music Generation’s local team has praised the students for their dedication and imagination throughout the project, highlighting it as an excellent example of what can be achieved when children are empowered to make and share music. Teachers from both national schools also expressed pride in their pupils’ achievements, noting the positive impact the project has had on confidence, collaboration and classroom engagement.

This inspiring collaboration stands as a testament to the power of youth creativity and the ongoing success of Music Generation’s mission to nurture musical potential in every child.

The track can be downloaded and purchased on iTunes.
