Offaly boxer Gráinne remains in sixth spot in world rankings
Offaly's Gráinne Walsh has retained her sixth-place position in World Boxing’s latest rankings.
The rankings are the third to be published by the amateur boxing governing body, which will be administering the boxing at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. They show Walsh maintaining her position in the global top ten at 65kg.
The Tullamore woman, who was grand marshal of the St Patrick's Day parade in her home town this week, won bronze at the Strandja multi-nations tournament in Bulgaria last month. She is one of five Team Ireland boxers to feature in the latest world rankings.
Boxers are ranked based an accumulated points system covering their performances at tournaments from 2024 to the start of 2026, with more recent results being awarded a higher weighting.
The 75kg world champion, Roscommon's Aoife O’Rourke, is the top-ranked boxer in her category, having clocked up 1,125 points.
Her sister, Lisa, who contests at 70kg, is ranked sixth in the world in her weight division, with 225 points, while Gráinne Walsh, is sixth at 65kg, with 450 points.
Of the Team Ireland men, 2025 World Boxing Championship 55kg bronze medallist, Patsy Joyce, from Olympic Boxing Club in Mullingar is fifth in his weight division, on 450 points, and heavyweight, Jack Marley, is eighth in his division, on 250 points.
The next World Boxing ranking event at which Gráinne Walsh is due to compete is next month's World Boxing Cup in Foz Do Iguacu, Brazil, from April 20-26.
