Re-opening of Civil Registration Office in Tullamore is welcomed
Offaly TDs John Clendennen and Tony McCormack have both welcomed the reopening of the Civil Registration Office in Tullamore following the recent disruption to services.
A temporary closure of the HSE's Tullamore office left people unable to book or register wedding ceremonies locally.
It has been confirmed that, following engagement with the Health Service Executive (HSE), temporary staffing arrangements have now been put in place to allow services to resume without further delay.
A full recruitment process will now take place to secure a permanent appointment and ensure long-term continuity.
Speaking on the matter, Deputy Clendennen said: “I remain committed to ensuring a permanent solution and ensuring the ongoing provision of these essential services for the people of Offaly.
“As I have stated previously, we really cannot have a situation where couples have to travel elsewhere for the service.
These registration services, whether for births, deaths or marriages are essential and should be available in Offaly as they are in our neighbouring counties.”
Deputy McCormack said: “It is very important that families across Offaly can access these vital services close to home. Civil registration supports people at some of the most significant moments in their lives, including the registration of births, deaths and marriages.
It is not acceptable that residents would have to travel outside the county to avail of such essential services.
“It is vital that the position is filled permanently as soon as possible ensuring a fully functioning civil registration service for families and communities across Offaly.”
Both Clendennen and McCormack said they will remain engaged with the HSE to monitor progress on the matter.
