Trad legend Dan Cleary honoured in Tullamore
Trad music legend Dan Cleary has been honoured with an induction into Hall of Fame Ireland which took place on Saturday last, May 2, in St Mary’s Youth Centre in Tullamore.
Rahan Comhaltas co-hosted the special night to honour the founding member of the national Comhaltas organisation. Saturday's event was a posthumous hall of fame induction and tribute night.
Born in Ballinamere, Dan Cleary was founder of his own band, the Ballinamere Ceili Band. He won three-in-a-row All Ireland Uilleann Pipes Championships and many more All Irelands along with that.
In 1951, he was one of the founding members of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann.
At last weekend's tribute night, there was a Dan Cleary Commemorative Mixed Céilí with the Maureen Culleton Dancers.

"It was a wonderful night of Irish music, song, dance and culture, celebrating the life of Dan Cleary," said his daughter, Ursula Harte.
Ursula extended her thanks to Kevin Rowsome and Tess Cunningham, pupils Dave Sheridan, Attracta Brady, Joe Finn, Calimus Hyney, Frank and Mary Brennan, Geraldine Mc Garrigle and her sister Anne, Breda and Pat Mc Donald, the Daly family, members of the Ballinamere Ceili Band, Sean Ryan, and more.
