Esker Arts to host Vincent Devine exhibition
Esker Arts is to host a mid-career exhibition by local artist Vincent Devine, bringing together a selection of works created across different stages of his artistic practice.
Devine, a Clara native, who lives in Tullamore, is a former Moate Business College and Athlone IT student.
He is an internationally renowned artist whose work was shown on Capitol Hill in Washington. He came to significant public prominence with a triptych painting of the late Vicky Phelan, the cervical cancer awareness campaigner,
The exhibition presents an opportunity to pause and reflect on the evolution of a body of work shaped by curiosity, research, intuition, and lived experience.
The exhibition traces Devine’s early explorations of portraiture and historical figures, where painting became a means not only of capturing likeness, but also of exploring the essence and psychology of his subjects. These early research driven works laid the foundation for later projects rooted in collaboration and human experience.
Alongside portraiture, REGENESIS includes automatic drawings and intuitive works that explore the subconscious mind, gesture, and spontaneity. More recent paintings developed through collaborations with cancer researchers, scientists, and patients reflect the artist’s ongoing interest in art as a tool for communication.
REGENESIS ultimately reflects an artist in transition — looking back on two decades of practice while contemplating new directions still to come.
The exhibition opens on Saturday, July 4, at Esker Arts, at 3pm and runs until Saturday, September 26.
