Weather Alerts Ireland has announced the launch of Storm Chasers Ireland, a new social media platform created in collaboration with Rhode meteorologist Cathal Nolan of Ireland's Weather Channel.

The new page will focus on capturing and sharing some of Ireland's most dramatic weather events, complementing the forecasts and daily weather updates already provided by Weather Alerts Ireland and Ireland's Weather Channel.

Storm Chasers Ireland will feature coverage of thunderstorms, lightning, coastal storms, flooding, extreme rainfall, powerful windstorms, snow, winter weather, and rare atmospheric phenomena.

Followers can also expect behind-the-scenes content from storm-chasing expeditions across the country, along with striking weather photography and video.

The team says the new platform aims to build a community of weather enthusiasts while showcasing the power and beauty of Ireland's changing weather.

Weather Alerts Ireland is encouraging anyone with an interest in dramatic weather to follow Storm Chasers Ireland and support the new venture as it begins documenting Ireland's most remarkable weather events.

Speaking to the Offaly Independent about his storm chasing plans in September last, Cathal shared plans to acquire Ireland’s first storm-chasing vehicle, developed in partnership with a specialist vehicle manufacturer.

"It will be fully equipped with weather instrumentation to broadcast live from inside some of the worst conditions," Cathal said.

"We’re essentially taking you into the heart of the storm without any of the concern for the general public."

He added the vehicle would also provide valuable data to help insurers, builders and communities prepare for future storms.

"We’ll take that vehicle into the very worst conditions to ensure that future infrastructure is based on the most accurate readings of extreme Irish weather."
