Birr rugby club seeks permission to build two new stands

Birr Rugby Football Club is planning to install two new concrete spectator stands and nine floodlights at its base at Scurragh, Townparks, Birr.

The club has applied for planning permission to Offaly County Council for same, as well as to relocate its existing dug-out boxes, erect 2m high security fencing, five ball catcher nets with supporting columns, together with internal crowd control fencing and all associated site works.

Birr RFC currently fields teams at adult, youth and mini's level. Its senior men compete in the Leinster League Division 2B/3 and Midland League, while its senior women plays in the Midland League.

According ot its official website, the club was first founded in 1887 before 'growing, disbanding and reforming'.

A decision by the council is expected to be made on September 24.
