Clara industrial heritage event postponed due to unforeseen circumstances

A National Heritage Week event celebrating Clara's rich industrial past has been postponed due to unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances.

The Explore Clara's Industrial Heritage Route, which had been scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 15, will now be held on a later date, with organisers confirming that revised details will be announced as soon as possible.

The event, organised by the Offaly Industrial Heritage Conservation Network in partnership with Clara Heritage Society, was set to invite visitors on a self-guided journey through the town's historic landmarks, beginning at the Old Bank building on Main Street.

The initiative aims to highlight Clara's unique industrial and cultural heritage, exploring the town's significant role in the textile industry, the influence of the Quaker community during the 18th and 19th centuries, and the importance of its location along the historic Esker Riada and the banks of the River Brosna.

Participants were due to spend the day discovering Clara's historic buildings, streetscapes and heritage sites while learning about the industries, people and events that helped shape one of Offaly's most distinctive towns.

In a statement, organisers said the postponement had not been made lightly and apologised for any inconvenience caused.

"We understand that many people were looking forward to attending and we sincerely appreciate the continued support shown to Clara Heritage Society. We are currently working to confirm a new date and will share updated details as soon as they become available."
