Record numbers expected in Tullamore for major sporting events

Tullamore is preparing to preparing for an influx of visitors at the end of the month as two sporting events, the BnM Tullamore Harriers Half Marathon and the Pat Colgan Pedal the Peaks Challenge take place in the town.

Record-breaking numbers of entrants have entered for this year's BnM Tullamore Harriers Half Marathon on Saturday, August 29, with 1,400 runners registered. Demand for places was unprecedented, with the event selling out within weeks of registration opening, underlining its growing reputation as one of Ireland's leading half marathon events.

Adding to the weekend's attractions is the Pat Colgan Pedal the Peaks Challenge, a charity cycling event taking place on Sunday, August 30.

Starting from the Tullamore Harriers stadium, cyclists can choose from 50km, 90km and 120km routes, providing options for participants of all abilities while raising funds for charity and celebrating the legacy of the late Pat Colgan.

Welcoming participants to Tullamore, Cathaoirleach of the Municipal District of Tullamore, Cllr. Shane Murray, said:

"On behalf of the people of Tullamore and the Municipal District, I am delighted to welcome all runners, cyclists and visitors to our town for these outstanding events.

"The record participation in this year's BnM Tullamore Harriers Half Marathon is a testament to the tremendous reputation that Tullamore has earned as a host for major sporting events.

Organisers have expressed their appreciation to volunteers, sponsors, local residents, emergency services and supporters whose commitment ensures the continued success of both events.

Participants and visitors are encouraged to make the most of their time in Tullamore by exploring the town's vibrant hospitality, retail and cultural offerings.

With a record field set to take to the roads and hundreds of cyclists preparing to tackle the scenic routes of the Pedal the Peaks Challenge, Tullamore looks forward to a memorable weekend of sport, community and celebration.
